Tom J. Berman is the Managing Partner of Berman Law. Mr. Berman is a graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law (2004) and Michigan State University (2001).
While in law school, Mr. Berman received the CALI Excellence For The Future Award given to the student who has achieved the top grade in the study of Trial Practice along with the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law Book Award in recognition of outstanding achievement in Trial Practice.
In addition to his class work in law school, Mr. Berman worked as both a Student Intern with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office as well as the Misdemeanor Defender’s Office in Detroit.
In addition to Mr. Berman’s criminal internships during law school, he also obtained his Michigan Real Estate Salesperson License that he continues to utilize today.
After graduating from Law School and obtaining his license to practice law as an attorney, Mr. Berman continued to work for the Defender’s Office. Simultaneous to his work with the Defender’s Office Mr. Berman formed the Law Offices of Tom J. Berman where his practice focused on Criminal, Divorce, and Real Estate Law. Through his aggressive efforts Mr. Berman was able to sustain a viable practice directly out of law school. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Berman formed a relationship with the Law Offices of Harold L. Wolkind, another general practice law firm that primarily focused on Real Estate Law and served as general counsel to ABC Appliance, Inc. d/b/a ABC Warehouse.
With this relationship thriving, Mr. Berman yet again decided to undertake another new challenge. Mr. Berman joined RJ Berman Enterprises, LLC, a Real Estate Investment and Management Company owned by his father, Ronald J. Berman. Mr. Berman’s role was to head investor relations & fund raising for a Private Real Estate Investment Fund that holds property in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Mr. Berman raised millions of dollars while fund raising and once the fund raising for the deal closed, Mr. Berman assisted his father with the management of the Fund. However, because the bulk of Mr. Berman’s time was spent fund raising, Mr. Berman’s passion for law drew him back to his practice full-time.
Mr. Berman continues to co-manage the Real Estate Investment Fund with his father, but has since formed Berman Law of which he devotes his full attention to.
Mr. Berman has extensive experience in several areas of law and has expanded his practice to include Bankruptcy Law, Business & Corporate Law, Criminal Law, Debt Relief, Divorce and Family Law, Estate Planning, which includes Wills, Trusts and Asset Protection, and his main specialty, Real Estate Law, which includes Landlord-Tenant Law and Loan Modifications.
In addition to the representation of individual clients, Mr. Berman serves as general counsel to several small businesses throughout the United States.
Outside of the practice of law, Mr. Berman serves on the Board of Trustees for the Michigan Chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America and is involved with and fundraises for the March of Dimes. Mr. Berman is also an Alumni Mentor at Detroit Country Day School.
